Rhino Monitoring

Poaching for rhino horn represents the key threat to rhinos throughout their range.

Black rhinos are critically endangered, with as few as 3,600 surviving in the wild. White rhinos fare slightly better than blacks with a population size of approximately 12,000. Both species continue to live under serious threat from poachers for their horns.

We are raising funds to enable us to provide financial support to Savé Valley Conservancy and the Lowveld Rhino Trust to help them monitor and protect the Zimbabwean rhino populations. Active projects undertaken by the Lowveld Rhino Trust include ear notching for identification of individual animals, translocations to safer places, and foot patrols by trained anti-poaching game scouts.
